Arshavin admits defeat in Spurs transfer saga

Andrei Arshavin's move from Zenit St Petersburg to Tottenham nowlooks unlikely to happen after the player revealed that he would stayin Russia.

The Russian playmaker has been in demand all summer.

Theplaymaker has been a long-term target for Spurs boss Juande Ramos, butZenit have been unable to agree a fee with the North London club.
Arshavin, who was dropped by Zenit for the recent league game against KrylyaSovetov Samara, is currently in Monaco preparing for Friday night'sSuper Cup clash with Manchester United.
Zenit initially held outfor £24million before twice lowering their asking price but Tottenhamlook to have turned their attention elsewhere, with the capture ofArshavin's international team-mate Roman Pavlyuchenko expected withinthe next 48 hours.
Spurs are still in the market for anotherstriker, but with Dimitar Berbatov's move to Manchester United alsostalling, Arshavin believes he may end up having to stay with the UEFACup champions.
'I have a feeling we can put this story to bed,' he told Sport Express.
'I think with the purchase of Pavlyuchenko the idea of Arshavin (moving) to London no longer exists.
When quizzed on whether he saw his future at Zenit, he replied: 'It looks that way.'
