Real Madrid are also interested in bidding for the services of Berbatov and rival Manchester City and Manchester United!
By the way, Berbatov is at Manchester United's training ground talking to Sir Alex Ferguson.
Earlier, City's US$67.6 million (£37 million) offer was accepted by Spurs. They are also in talks with Valencia's David Villa and Stuttgart's Mario Gomez, according to the BBC.
Meanwhile, Spurs though have completed the signing of Roman Pavlyuchenko at the weekend and are in the market for another striker, with Real Zaragoza pair Diego Milito and Sergio Garcia on their radar.They also wrapped up the signing of Manchester City defender Vedran Corluka.
They would also welcome a defensive midfielder such as Sporting Lisbon's Miguel Veloso or Portsmouth's Lassana Diarra.
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has made his first deadline-day signing by taking Algerian international left-back Nadir Belhadj on loan from French club Lens.
Valencia have confirmed the signing of Ignacio "Nacho" Gonzalez, but the Uruguay midfielder has been immediately loaned out to Newcastle United.
Alan Smith and Shola Amoebi are set to stay at St James' Park.
Chelsea are hopeful of brokering a deal for Robinho from Real Madrid, although relations between the two clubs are strained following the public pursuit of the Brazil forward.
The Spanish giants are also furious with Chelsea selling Robinho shirts on their official website before a deal was struck.
Elsewhere among the traditional heavyweights of the Barclays Premier League, Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Espanyol midfielder Albert Riera.
Boss Rafael Benitez said: "I am hopeful the deal will be done. I have confidence it will go ahead. Bringing in Riera will give us a bit of balance."
The Reds have signed 18-year-old Brazilian Vito Flora on a free transfer from Botafogo. The striker will not have any problems getting a work permit as he has an Italian passport. If all goes well he will be going straight into the reserves. Hungarian goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi has also have completed the permanent transfer to Liverpool. The reserve team stopper spent last season at Melwood on a 12 month loan spell from MTK Hungaria and was part of Gary Ablett's treble winning team.
Going the other way is Steve Finnan who is moving to Espanyol as a make-weight deal for Riera. Andriy Voronin is also on his way out of Anfield after signing a season-long loan deal to Hertha Berlin.
Manchester City fresh after a takeover are interested in buying Michael Owen from Newcastle. There is even talk about City hijacking Man United's bid for Berbatov!
It is set to be a busy day throughout the Premier League but Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate does not see any comings or goings at the Riverside.
Wigan have been interested in taking Mido on loan but Southgate wants to keep his current squad together. Latics striker Emile Heskey looks unlikely to leave the JJB Stadium either after committing his future to Steve Bruce's side.
Henrik Larsson has been linked with Everton but the veteran has been quoted in his homeland, Sweden, ruling out a move from Helsingborgs.
Everton also missed out on Alan Smith who is staying at Newcastle. Louis Saha however has passed a medical (!) and joined the Toffees on a pay-as-you-play deal.
Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is in the hunt for another midfielder to add to his squad, which lost the likes of Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and experienced Brazilian Gilberto this summer.
West Brom manager Tony Mowbray is set to strengthen his defensive options after AZ Alkmaar confirmed they have agreed to loan Ryan Donk to the Barclays Premier League side for the rest of the season. |
