Torres tears muscle on international duty
AARHUS, Denmark, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Spain striker Fernando Torres will miss Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier in Denmark after suffering an injury in training on Friday.
The Liverpool striker had to leave the afternoon training session in Aarhus after suffering a small muscle tear in his right leg and subject to further tests will be out for between eight and 10 days, team doctor Genaro Borras told reporters.
The setback will also rule him out of Wednesday's friendly in Finland.
And it also means he is a major doubt for next Saturday's Merseyside derby meeting with Everton.
Valencia's David Villa, Spain's top scorer in qualifying, has already pulled out of the squad with an ankle injury leaving coach Luis Aragones without his two first-choice forwards.
Late call-up Raul Tamudo of Espanyol is the likely replacement for Saturday's match.
Spain, who have three qualifiers remaining, are second in Group F level on 19 points with leaders Sweden having played a game more.
Denmark are fourth on 14 points with a game in hand on Spain and could still reach next year's finals in Austria and Switzerland. |
