Should send this to our Rafa, I very agreed what he said.
Rafa made only one mistake but it cost us the game.He didn't use all our weapons at the same time.
Unexpectedly,he asked Gerrard to lay deep and not to roam upfront. Besides, since he decided to play with only one winger instead of two,the end result became clear, with such a figure we were poised to lose from the start, cos at Anfield no width, means no win against the likes of MUFC.
Given the fact Kewell got no help from central midfielders(Gerrard playing deeper), the latter became so predictable and of course unable to put himself off the marks. He was never at ease because we were lacking a second winger at our right to unlock MUFC's defence.
Indeed,Rafa should've had Babel on the pitch from the start as a right winger to outrun Evra and make the latter busy with him the whole game(don't forget Evra got enough time to save two dramatic balls on their way to be netted!).
So,using two full time wingers who don't cut inside was the only way to overrule MUFC since Gerrard was laying deep.
The final picture would've been different for us then, cos a right winger would've brought in a lot of width and based on a large triangle made of(Kewell,Gerrard,Babel), our attacks would've been sharper and pacy.
On the contrary of that Rafa played Benayoun who is frail and can hardly play as an out and out winger, and with Gerrard playing unusually a bit deeper(too much close to our rearguard)it became easy for both Anderson and Hargreaves to disrupt our system.
However, even with Rafa's chosen style of today we should've at least had crouchy within the starting squad(as a target man) to grab the balls and give them back to Gerrard or Kewell.
Furthermore the latter would've been very useful to block Ferdinand and Vidic in their box and break their ties with their midfielders.
No, Mr McNulty, you're wrong. We don't need to sack Rafa, we just need a deputy manager to help Rafa when he lacks imagination like today. We need someone who favours attacking style from the wings.

P.S Those who are not convinced by my words should go to watch again the seconf half of the games against Everton and Newcastle.
Babel is useful only when he plays at right and alongside Kuyt when playing between the lines of other teams. |
