Until guns are banned, I'll never travel to the US.

Even with same states that do ban guns, I feel that anywhere in the country you run a higher risk of encountering random shootings than countries where guns are banned.

I would totally agree about the likelihood of being shot in a random shooting versus getting hit by a car. However, I still think that there should be stricter gun control and more regulations regarding gun ownership. I can't think of a reason why a civilian would need an automatic, military style weapon!

For self protection perhaps. But the mind is more important, hence an assessment on the mental state before the issuing of weapons would be more appropriate.

You can ban guns all you want, it's the illegal firearms that's causing the issue. At least in Canada it is, we're already very strict about guns up here.

Guns in Mexico and Canada are most likely smuggled from the US. Those assault rifles you can buy in stores are only semi auto though.

Gun itself will not kill people, the operator use gun to kill others. if gov't ban all guns, it's only restrict to normal good citizen, but the bad guys won't have problem to get hold of any high power gun. Don't even bother to smuggle to US, if you need to smuggle, it may not be like hand gun, it must be military weapon. if you need a illegal gun, go to downtown, black people or Mexican gang infested area, I'm sure you won't have problem to get a modified fully auto SKS or AK.

I was in Minneapolis in 2006, 2 high school students were killed by random drive-by shooting in just 3 months... that is f*cked up Zzz

I have no problem with guns so far. After all, I believe that guns do not kill people, people do. On the other hand, I don't really mind getting tough background and mental checks before getting a gun. Just my opinion though.

Agree, gun store has 1000s gun and rifle, but they won't kill people, it's the people that use gun as a tool to kill people.

Let's say use gun as a tool for sport, like a bats for baseball, arrow for archery, if bad guy get hold of the tool, they all kill people. Gun can be use as shooting target game, hunting game, or clay shooting by shotgun. I like those sport, even ammo is not cheap now, but they are fun to play, compete with friends, or just see how good you can do. Like one of the above poster, bad guy or gangster with criminal record won't walk in to a gun store and say I would like to buy a pistol, and I don't mind to wait for 2 weeks back ground FBI check, instead, they walk to bad area, Mexican gangster area to get there weapon.

I personally do not feel the need of possessing a gun.

Gun controls will prevent mass killings. Although people would ask why ban guns while have to deal with gangsters with guns on street, most people including children are killed by non-gang people, especially massacre in these few years. Gun smuggled from other countries??? Only Russia and America are the only big countries that makes guns, and that is how Mexican gangsters are able to gather those fancy weapons. There is no way people will have to be afraid guns smuggling from other countries.

And most of all, guns are not the only way for people to defend themselves. Pepper sprays, stun guns, baseball bat, paintball guns with pepper spray filled paintball, security systems, etc. Trust me, if these don't work, nether gun will.
