It is better for you to have someone to rent a room for you ahead, or you can book a week of the hotel room, and in this week try to get your apartment rented. There is one hotel in China town call Wyndham China town. The rate is fair and the location is safe. The rate is US$ 225 per night, check it out online. Rent for a single room (if you can find one) is around $400 per month and one bed room suit is around $800 which is usually the basement of the house or a divided 1st or 2nd floor.(separated doorway and private bath and kitchen) . For single room you might need to share with other tenants for the public utilities like bath room and kitchen. Chinese usually live along the subway lines, D, N , B and Q. The neighborhood are Bensonhurt, Bay Ridge, and Sheephead Bay in Brooklyn. For Queens rental apartment, you can look for it on The World Journal Daily.
