King Kev to get canned?

Kevin Keegan is widely expected to face the sack as soon as today, following a meeting with club officials and key figures.
The Newcastle boss was summoned to an afternoon board meeting yesterday which club ‘in-the-knows' described as "very important but not related to transfer business" and it is believed that a heated exchange ensued, with managing director Derek Llambias making it clear that they were not happy with Keegan's performance this term.
The situation has been set for a meltdown with Keegan insisting that he needs more quality in the squad, but has been told that he needs to sell in order to buy.
Keegan's unflinching loyalty to Joey Barton is also believed to be a thorn in owner Mike Ashley's side, who tried to offload the bad boy when he was serving time.
The Newcastle manager also wants to build around veteran striker Michael Owen, but the club's protracted negotiations with the England international has left both sides in a precarious position.
To add insult to injury, coach Chris Hughton informed Keegan yesterday the club were sizing up Lazio defender Gugliemo Stendardo but the move was later vetoed executive director Dennis Wise.
It has been revealed that Keegan had little input in the signings made so far, including yesterday's deal for striker Xisco from Deportivo and the loan capture of Nacho Gonzalez from Valencia.
Ashley is also said to be infuriated that his manager was spoken to by police after downing a pint of beer during his side's defeat to Arsenal on Saturday in view of the pitch which is not allowed.
