None Better Than Clichy, Insists WengerArsenal boss Arsene Wenger has declared Gael Clichy to be the best left-back in the Premier League.
Speaking ahead of this evenings match away to Derby, Wenger insisted that the 22-year-old already has the beating of ex Gunners star Ashley Cole and Manchester United's Patrice Evra, while at the same time warning that he is only getting better.
"I would say he's the best and there's still more in there," enthused Wenger about his compatriot.
"Because you see when the guy can come out with the game he produced at Old Trafford, you think, oh, there's more in the locker, because he takes more responsibility.
"He has hit many people with his performance at Old Trafford.
"It was a top-class performance, not only football-wise but character, he showed a nonacceptance of the defeat when we were down 2-1. He was the one who really moved forward. Gael replaced Ashley Cole very well.
Wenger conceded that the depth of France's talent and experience in that position means that Clichy might not even make his country's squad for Austria and Switzerland this summer, but is sure that his time will come.
"I would like him to play, but there is Abidal at Barcelona and Evra at United. He is very, very close."
