Panmunjeom
% ]% L3 P# g( k# ~/ Mtvb now, tvbnow, bttvbPanmunjeom, a symbol of a divided nation, is 56 km north of Seoul. It is a grim reminder of the 1950-53 Korean War, the half-century prolonged armistice, and the continuing tension with the North. Panmunjeom is now the domain of the Military Armistice Commission (MAC), whose function is to supervise the truce between North Korea and the United Nations Command. Although there is no actual threat of war and rapprochement is recently being made, the seriousness of armed readiness can be clearly sensed at Panmunjeom, and certain travel agents arrange tours there and to interesting nearby sites.
