Water serves many purposes in your body including keeping blood clean, keeping skin soft and stretchy, and cooling you off when you become overheated.

On humid days (when it feels sticky and wet outside), the perspiration process may not work well enough to keep your body cool, since the sweat we make doesn’t dry up as well.

Keeping yourself hydrated is especially important when exercising.  Follow these tips to prevent dehydration.

Before exercise:

An athlete should drink about 1 to 2 glasses (10-14 oz) of cold water 1-2 hours before activity and a little more than 1 glass (10 oz) of cold water 10-15 minutes before activity.
